Quran verses about strength

The Quran describes Allah as al-Qawiy, the Strong, and makes clear that real strength comes from Him. In the story of the two gardens, a believer tells his proud companion that he should have said that there is no power except through Allah. The Quran also reminds people that human strength is temporary: we are created weak, given strength, and then returned to weakness in old age.

Within that frame, the Quran speaks often about inner strength. It promises that no soul is burdened beyond its capacity. It shows a small group of believers under Saul (Talut) facing Goliath (Jalut) and praying for patience and firm footing. Moses (Musa), nervous about his speech, asks Allah to expand his chest and is given his brother Aaron (Harun) to strengthen him. The verses below focus on this steadiness of heart, drawing on Allah's strength rather than one's own.

Allah is the Provider, the One with Power, the Strong.
    Adh-Dhariyat 51:58

Allah is the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Firm.

When you entered your garden, why did you not say, ‘As Allah wills; there is no power except through Allah’? Although you see me inferior to you in wealth and children.
    Al-Kahf 18:39

A believer reminds his proud friend that on entering his garden he should have said, 'As Allah wills; there is no power except through Allah.'

Allah is He who created you weak, then after weakness gave you strength, then after strength gave you weakness and gray hair. He creates whatever He wills. He is the Omniscient, the Omnipotent.
    Ar-Rum 30:54

Allah creates people in weakness, then gives them strength, then returns them to weakness and gray hair.

Allah intends to lighten your burden, for the human being was created weak.
    An-Nisa 4:28

Allah wishes to lighten people's burdens, knowing that human beings were created weak.

Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity. To its credit is what it earns, and against it is what it commits. “Our Lord, do not condemn us if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not burden us as You have burdened those before us. Our Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear; and pardon us, and forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Lord and Master, so help us against the disbelieving people.”

249When Saul set out with the troops, he said, “Allah will be testing you with a river. Whoever drinks from it does not belong with me. But whoever does not drink from it, does belong with me, except for whoever scoops up a little with his hand.” But they drank from it, except for a few of them. Then, when he crossed it, he and those who believed with him, they said, “We have no strength to face Goliath and his troops today.” But those who knew that they would meet Allah said, “How many a small group has defeated a large group by Allah’s will. Allah is with the steadfast.” 250And when they confronted Goliath and his troops, they said, “Our Lord, pour down patience on us, and strengthen our foothold, and support us against the faithless people.”
    Al-Baqarah 2:249–250

Facing Goliath's army with a small band, the believers who expected to meet Allah reminded the others that small groups have overcome large ones by Allah's leave, and prayed for patience and firm footing.

O you who believe! If you support Allah, He will support you, and will strengthen your foothold.
    Muhammad 47:7

If Allah supports you, there is none who can overcome you. But if He fails you, who is there to help you after Him? So in Allah let the believers put their trust.
    Ali 'Imran 3:160

If Allah helps you, no one can overcome you, so believers should rely on Him.

The wealthy shall spend according to his means; and he whose resources are restricted shall spend according to what Allah has given him. Allah never burdens a soul beyond what He has given it. Allah will bring ease after hardship.
    At-Talaq 65:7

Allah does not ask of anyone more than what He has given them, and will bring ease after hardship.

The strength these verses describe is not about never feeling weak. Moses asked for help with his nerves, and the believers facing Goliath asked for patience before anything else. When you feel stretched, it can help to say what the believer in 18:39 said, and to remember that what you are carrying has been measured to your capacity.
