Quran verses about family

The Quran begins its picture of family at the very start of humanity: all people come from one soul and its mate. From there it speaks of family as a blessing and a responsibility. Spouses, children and grandchildren are listed as gifts from Allah, and keeping the ties of kinship, silat ar-rahim, is something the Quran asks believers to honor and warns them not to cut.

The Quran also tells real family stories, with all their strain. Jacob (Yaqub) warns Joseph (Yusuf) not to tell his brothers his dream. Noah (Nuh) pleads for his son. Abraham (Ibrahim) speaks gently to a father who does not share his faith. Fathers in the Quran gather their children to make sure they hold to the faith after them. The verses below combine the guidance on family with these examples, ending with the promise that righteous families will be joined again.
