Quran verses about kindness
Kindness in the Quran is often called ihsan, which means doing things beautifully and doing good beyond what is required. The Quran asks for it toward parents first, then relatives, orphans, the poor, neighbors near and far, companions, travelers and those in one's care. It is a wide circle, and the Quran names each group.
A large part of Quranic kindness is about speech. People are told to speak kindly, to say what is best, to offer gentle words even when they cannot give anything, and to answer a greeting with one that is better. Even Moses (Musa) and Aaron (Harun), sent to the tyrant Pharaoh, are told to speak to him gently. The verses below gather these teachings, from the broad command in 16:90 to the small details of a greeting and a lowered voice.
Allah commands justice, and goodness, and generosity towards relatives. And He forbids immorality, and injustice, and oppression. He advises you, so that you may take heed.
An-Nahl 16:90 Allah commands justice, excellence in doing good, and giving to relatives, and forbids indecency, wrongdoing and oppression.

An-Nisa 4:36 After worshiping Allah alone, believers are told to be good to parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, the near and distant neighbor, companions, travelers and those in their care.

Ar-Rahman 55:60 Surah Ar-Rahman asks whether the reward for goodness can be anything but goodness.
Most of the kindness these verses describe costs nothing: a softer tone, a returned greeting, a few gentle words to someone you cannot help, patience with an aging parent. If you want to act on just one, try 17:53 for a day and choose the best words available each time you speak.
