Quran verses about justice
Justice is one of the Quran's central demands. It uses two main words, 'adl and qist, and connects them to the order of creation itself. In Surah Ar-Rahman, Allah raises the sky and sets up the balance, mizan, and then tells people not to upset it. In 57:25, the messengers and the scripture are sent so that people will uphold justice.
What stands out is how far the Quran pushes it. Believers must stand for justice even against themselves, their parents and their relatives, whether the person involved is rich or poor. Hatred of a group must not stop them from being fair. Justice also reaches into everyday business: giving full measure, honest weights, returning what was entrusted. The verses below move from these broad principles to the practical honesty that justice requires.
Allah commands justice, and goodness, and generosity towards relatives. And He forbids immorality, and injustice, and oppression. He advises you, so that you may take heed.
An-Nahl 16:90 Allah commands justice and doing good, and forbids wrongdoing and oppression.
O you who believe! Stand firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even if against yourselves, or your parents, or your relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah takes care of both. So do not follow your desires, lest you swerve. If you deviate, or turn away—then Allah is Aware of what you do.
An-Nisa 4:135 Believers are told to stand firmly for justice as witnesses for Allah, even against themselves, their parents or their relatives, and whether someone is rich or poor.
O you who believe! Be upright to Allah, witnessing with justice; and let not the hatred of a certain people prevent you from acting justly. Adhere to justice, for that is nearer to piety; and fear Allah. Allah is Informed of what you do.
Al-Ma'idah 5:8 Hatred of a people should never lead believers to act unjustly, because being just is nearer to righteousness.
Allah instructs you to give back things entrusted to you to their owners. And when you judge between people, judge with justice. Allah’s instructions to you are excellent. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

And do not come near the property of the orphan, except with the best intentions, until he reaches maturity. And give full weight and full measure, equitably. We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity. And when you speak, be fair, even if it concerns a close relative. And fulfill your covenant with Allah. All this He has enjoined upon you, so that you may take heed.
Al-An'am 6:152 Among Allah's commands are full measure and weight with justice, and fair speech even when it concerns a relative.

7And the sky, He raised; and He set up the balance. 8So do not transgress in the balance. 9But maintain the weights with justice, and do not violate the balance.
Ar-Rahman 55:7–9 Allah raised the sky and set the balance, so people should not transgress it but keep the scales fair.
We sent Our messengers with the clear proofs, and We sent down with them the Book and the Balance, that humanity may uphold justice. And We sent down iron, in which is violent force, and benefits for humanity. That Allah may know who supports Him and His messengers invisibly. Allah is Strong and Powerful.
Al-Hadid 57:25 The messengers were sent with clear signs, the scripture and the balance so that people would uphold justice.

Sad 38:26 David (Dawud), made a ruler, is told to judge between people with truth and not follow his own desires.
“O my people! Give full measure and full weight, in all fairness, and do not cheat the people out of their rights, and do not spread corruption in the land.
Hud 11:85 The prophet Shu'ayb tells his people to give full measure and weight and not to cheat people of what is theirs.
1Woe to the defrauders. 2Those who, when they take a measure from people, they take in full. 3But when they measure or weigh to others, they cheat.
Al-Mutaffifin 83:1–3 Surah Al-Mutaffifin opens by condemning those who take full measure for themselves but give short measure to others.
If two groups of believers fight each other, reconcile between them. But if one group aggresses against the other, fight the aggressing group until it complies with Allah’s command. Once it has complied, reconcile between them with justice, and be equitable. Allah loves the equitable.
Al-Hujurat 49:9 When believers quarrel, others should make peace between them with justice and fairness, for Allah loves those who are fair.
To this go on inviting, and be upright as you were commanded, and do not follow their inclinations, and say, “I believe in whatever Book Allah has sent down, and I was commanded to judge between you equitably. Allah is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds, and you have your deeds. Let there be no quarrel between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is the ultimate return.”
Ash-Shura 42:15 The Prophet ﷺ is told to say that he has been commanded to be just between people.
The Quran's idea of justice starts close to home, with honest dealings, fair words about people we dislike, and the courage to admit when we ourselves are in the wrong. It may help to ask, before a difficult conversation or decision, whether you would accept the same treatment if the roles were reversed.
